Book Week seeks to strengthen volunteer team

Although the fourth annual Kirkcudbright Book Week is still the best part of a year away, there is a lot of activity already happening behind the scenes and one thing has become clear – that it will be the busiest programme yet with plenty of exciting events due to take place.

That means that we will be seeking to recruit some more volunteers to strengthen our excellent team and, although Book Week happens between March 3-9, 2025, you may wish to get your name down early.

Volunteers fulfil a series of key roles in the run-up to Book Week, starting with delivering the printed programmes and posters that we distribute to local businesses and organisations in the weeks leading up to the event.

During the week itself, volunteers are at each event, carrying out tasks including looking after the authors giving talks and recitals, meeting and greeting audience members, checking tickets and helping authors with the sale of their books at events.

Another key role played by the volunteers is helping to create the right ambience and many audience members have commented down the years that they appreciate the cheery way that our volunteers do their job, adding to the feel-good atmosphere at Kirkcudbright Book Week.

We’ll be appealing for more volunteers nearer the time but if you are interested in putting yourself forward now, you can ring Book Week Co-organiser  John Dean on 07889 554931 or by email at deangriss@btinternet.com
