Library prepares for Book Week

The staff at Kirkcudbright Library are looking forward to a busy Kirkcudbright Book Week.

Michelle has again used her artistic skills to brighten the place and created works to spark the imagination and enthuse visitors to the library, which is in Daar Road.

The library is staging several events during Book Week, which runs March 4-10,  including three free events to celebrate World Book Day for young readers, on Thursday March 7, the first two of which represent an exciting collaboration between two authors:

10 am Enjoy stories with local author Susi Briggs as she launches her latest picture book Yum, a story about kindness and sharing, published by Foggie Toddle Books and illustrated by Charlotte Brayley. Susi is passionate about Scots language literacy. She writes songs, poetry and picture books. She is also co- creator of shortlisted storytelling show Oor Wee Podcast. Her three picture books have all been shortlisted for Scots Bairns’ Book o the Year.  Suitable from nursery to primary age children. Free event but places need to be booked. Supported by National Lottery Community Fund

2pm Dalbeattie author and storyteller Heather Taylor, a multi-disciplinary writer,  will present her adaptation of Susi’s book Yum. Heather, the Creative Director at Commingled, a socially-driven enterprise, is passionate about giving young readers access to storytelling and literary events and creating an inclusive space for all audiences

She said: “This event will explore the richness of the Scots language as we bring the tale to life. The event is designed to cater to a diverse audience and it’s ideal for children and adults with additional support needs and learning disabilities. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures that everyone can partake in the magic of Yum! in a welcoming environment.“

Free event but places need to be booked. Supported by National Lottery Community Fund

7pm Announcement of the winners of the Kirkcudbright Book Week Society/Kirkcudbright Library Ghost Story Competition for young writers. Free event but places need to be booked.
