The welcome return of the light

There are a number of reasons why Kirkcudbright Book Week is held in the first week of March each year, one of which is that we like to include events that mark World Book Day for young readers on the first Thursday of the month.

Another important reason for holding it so early in the calendar is somewhat more esoteric but please allow us a spot of sentimentality (we are literary types, after all!) because the reason is that it allows us to celebrate the return of the light.

Staging our literary offering in early March allows people to attend some of the Book Week events as a way of celebrating the area’s emergence from the long, dark days of the Scottish winter and the return of Spring. It’s enough to raise the spirits.

If you haven’t booked your tickets yet, you can find out more about what’s on offer at http://www.kirkcudbrightbookweek.org
